Local inventor solves mobility challenge with Slide 'n Ride

The Slide 'n Ride™ provides a new-found freedom for those unable to enter and exit a vehicle safely and without risk.

What happens when an Akron restoration shop owner gets inspired? He gets to work, invents something new, and the community gets involved too.

On Tuesday's Donovan Live, Jimmy welcomed inventor Rick Saccone, Matt Aloisi from Group Endeavor, and Jaclyn Turk -- a junior at Archbishop Hoban High School.

The trio introduced us to Slide ‘n Ride™, an easy to use medical device born out of necessity and invented locally.

The Slide ‘n Ride™ is a safe in/safe out vehicle assist seat that eases the transition from a wheelchair or walker to a vehicle. This FDA-registered medical device is a portable seat with retractable legs that can be temporarily placed adjacent to the front or back seat of a small SUV or car to transition a passenger safely into the vehicle.

Because the passenger is seated on the Slide ‘n Ride™ before getting into the vehicle, they can easily swing their legs around and slide onto the vehicle seat. Replacing the commonly used transfer board, the Slide ‘n Ride™ reduces strain on both the caregiver and patient.

See more about the Slide ‘n Ride™ in the player above. It's now available for purchase at local ACME Fresh Market stores and through the Internet at https://www.slide-n-ride.com.

The displays at ACME Fresh Market stores were designed and produced by students at Archbishop Hoban High School.
