FAIRLAWN, Ohio — Over the weekend, nearly 200 Northeast Ohioans got together for the Aspire! gala, in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio's operations in Summit County.
The event, held at St. George Fellowship Centre in Fairlawn, raised $107,390.
Guests enjoyed an interview with 2023 BGCNEO Youth of the Year Samarion Newell, 18, who is a multi-sport athlete and honor student at Sandusky High School. Newell says he plans to study finance in college and will compete for the state title on April 18 in Columbus.
There were also performances by kids in the Opening Track music program, a Dessert Dash, auctions and a showing of "The Land" music video featuring Myles Garrett, Darius Garland, Kareem Hunt and Katie Nageotte.
The film is a project involving all three pro sports teams. It is designed to help the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Ohio double the number of kids its serves.
