CLEVELAND — This weekend marks the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's here in Cleveland.
The event will take place on Sunday, October 2 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Entry will be at 7 a.m., with a ceremony starting at 8:45 a.m., followed by the walk at 9 a.m. 3News' Laura Caso will serve as the event emcee and will also take part in the walk.
Here's more from Laura on why she is such a passionate advocate for Alzheimer's:
"I do it for my grandma! My grandmother or Nonna Angelina as I called her, was the most amazing woman in the world. She was the proud mother of 11 children and 27 grandchildren. Talk about a large Italian family! Whether she was in the kitchen cooking a feast or working three jobs to make ends meet - she was the epitome of a giver and she had so much love to give. Unfortunately, Alzheimer's treated her badly and she passed away several years ago after a long and hard battle. We miss her so much. She inspired me to join the Alzheimer's Board and to host and attend events that will help us find a cure. I am so honored to emcee the Cleveland Alzheimer’s Walk this year and I hope you will join us. Alzheimer’s has touched too many of us and together, we can make a difference."
All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
