Lorain — LORAIN, Ohio -- Thanksgiving dinner can add up fast, and if you are not into curbside pickup, a trip to the grocery store can sometimes be overwhelming.
There’s no need to shy away from the madness.
“Look through each ad and see who has the best deal,” explains retired cashier Linda Kay Tarpley.
She started her career in August of 1969. Several years later, she gave birth to Channel 3’s Tiffany Tarpley.
“I like the idea of helping people, talking to people,” says Tarpley. “Just a smile, you’d be surprised what a smile would do for a person’s day.”
The first things she suggests is eating before you make your list and go the store.
“You won’t be hungry and just start picking up everything that looks appetizing,” she says. “You get home and all you really have is snacks or food you really didn’t need.”
Be sure to check grocery store ads to compare prices, and remember to keep those coupons handy. The majority of them come out at the first of the month.
“One hint, if you see a coupon in the paper, if you watch the ads, those items are going to be on sale somewhere in one of the stores within the next two weeks -- it’s almost a guarantee.”
Tarpley also says organization is key so you aren’t fumbling around at the register. Also, be courteous and kind to cashiers and fellow shoppers.
