CLEVELAND — It was a big night for WKYC Studios at the 45th annual "All Ohio Excellence In Journalism Awards" hosted by the Press Club of Cleveland at the House of Blues on Friday.
3News captured one of the evening's top honors, winning the award for Best Television Newscast in a Major Market in the state of Ohio. "Two quality newscasts, both very serious lead stories handled extremely well. From the producers to the anchors to the crews in the field, quality stuff across the board," wrote the judges who evaluated the awards.
In addition, 3News Meteorologist Jason Mikell was awarded first place in the "Best Weathercast" category for his coverage of a tornado warning in Holmes and Wayne counties.

Digital Media - Analysis: "Cleveland Browns paid too high of a price for Deshaun Watson" Dave "Dino" DeNatale (second place)
Digital Media - Breaking News Series: "Death of Jayland Walker" WKYC.com staff (second place)
Analysis - "Legally Speaking" Stephanie Haney (second place)
Awards season will continue later this month when the 54th annual Central Great Lakes Emmy Awards takes place at LaCentre in Westlake on June 17. WKYC Studios will be well-represented at the event, with the station having received a total of 33 nominations.
