AKRON, Ohio — It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Meredith Wagler and her two daughters.
She moved into her Akron home about a month ago, but it wasn’t long after they settled in, they were robbed.
On Black Friday, Wagler walked into her home to find her belongings in disarray.
“I walked upstairs to my room and I noticed my closet was open, my laptop was gone all my Christmas gifts I had hidden in there were gone, all my jewelry was gone,” Wagler said.
She says it was clear someone had even laid in her bed on top of the fact that her ammunition, birth certificates and some bank documents were gone.
“You just feel violated really,” Wagler said.
Unfortunately, this was the second blow for the single mom who says this year has been relentless.
“Ever since spring, I was in a lot of abdominal pain and I just kind of ignored it but I was like something isn't right,” Wagler said.
During the summer, that abdominal pain turned to news she didn’t think she’d hear.
“It's ovarian cancer, stage three and stage three means it spread.”
After multiple surgeries and chemotherapy since August, she’s still managed to keep her smile for the people who matter most.
“It’s about staying positive, fighting for them and family,” Wagler said. “I have a great support system.”
Sometimes, though, a little extra help can go a long way.
Kisling, Nestico & Redick, Ohio accident attorneys, donated $2,500 to the Wagler family to try and help along that journey.
“This is just a bump in the road. I'm going to have a story to tell somebody and I'm here to help other people too.”
