CLEVELAND — Since the beginning of the pandemic, Les Flake has been making beer deliveries door-to-door.
You might be accustomed to seeing Les at Progressive Field, FirstEnergy Stadium, or Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. And you might know him better by his nickname, "The Beer Guy."
Did you know "The Beer Guy" also has a beer named after him?
Matt Vann owns "The Jolly Scholar" bar on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. He named the light lager "Cold Beer Here" after Les.
"Les and I have been dreaming this up for a while, then COVID-19 hit" says Vann explains.
This year Vann wanted to sell Les' beer at Progressive Field during Guardians games, wth Les as the pitchman for his own beer.
But not so fast.
Major League Baseball is currently in lockout mode as owners and players struggle to hammer out a new collective barganing agreement. There is a good chance there will be no Guardians games this April.
For Matt, this is a foul ball.
"Humbly we will wait another year (before selling at Progressive Field), but we still think that there's a time when Les will be selling his beer," Vann tells us.
Matt and Les will continue selling the beer door-to-door, in restaurants, and even at some local grocery stores. But the home run will be selling "Cold Beer Here" at Progressive Field, if and when the Guardians play there again.
