CLEVELAND — LaShon's Catering Specialists is a family-owned business that offers almost every dining experience imaginable and Executive Chef Dashon Barnes has a beautiful approach to the business.
"We work hard but we love what we do," Barnes said. "In 2001 I had a vision to give hospitality to those who really want it. I'm a people person so I know that my energy and my professionalism is going to really astonish people."
Dashon and his wife Latoya decided to name their business after their oldest daughter - and LaShon's catering was born.
"So then I said I want to make this a family business, so I told the wife, Miss Latoya honey, I want you to be the event director."
That's when their marital partnership became a professional one as well.
"As soon as he told me, I said, 'okay what do I do?' because it wasn't my line of work, so I just came on board."
And the Barnes want to pass this family legacy down to their daughter, too.
"By the time I'm old and gray I'll work for her and that'll be it," Dashon said with a laugh.
So what does their daughter think of her delicious destiny?
"I do get a lot of recognition. People tell me, you know, this is something that they wish that they had so it makes me become more appreciative of the fact that I have a business named after me and I will be taking it over one day."
And when it comes to working in diverse settings, Chef Dashon's philosophy rings through.
"No matter what nationality you are everyone wants superb service. So when you provide that superb service, the phones will be ringing, and it has for almost 19 years."
