CLEVELAND — On Monday, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo provided an update on one of its newest furry friends.
Maya, the first koala born at the zoo in nearly a decade, celebrated her first birthday.
"She is becoming more independent each day, spending less time on mom’s back," Cleveland Metroparks Zoo wrote on its social media posts. "Maya is also becoming a proficient climber and may even be seen sleeping elsewhere in the perching, other than right next to mom!"
Zoo officials say Maya is now only nursing occasionally, with 90% of her diet now consisting of eucalyptus leaves.
You can send your happy birthday wishes to Maya at Gumleaf Hideout in the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Austrailian Adventure during normal hours.
