KENT, Ohio — Police in Kent are bidding a sad farewell to lovable K-9 Iron, who is retiring after more than five years of service with the department.

Iron came to Kent from the Czech Republic in 2014 by Al Gill of Von der Haus Gill German Shepherds.

He graduated from the K-9 Academy in April of that year and stayed with the Kent Police Department unti this past September. Iron worked alongside his partner Officer Poe in the department's night shift until earlier this year when they switched over to days. The Kent Police Department credits the K-9 unit with several successful tracks and narcotics discoveries during Iron's career.

Iron also made several trips to local elementary schools during his time with the Kent Police Department.

According to the Kent Police Department's Facebook page, Iron has been enjoying time with his family since his retirement.
