MENTOR, Ohio — Lake Humane Society (LHS) is seeking donations to cover the cost of life-saving treatment for a severely sick dog who was found on the side of the road and brought in for care by a good Samaritan.
When the good Samaritan arrived at LHS with Sparky the dog, veterinary professionals immediately evaluated his condition and discovered that he was emaciated and dehydrated.
The treatment to take care of Sparky costs nearly $1,000, and the Lake Humane Society relies solely on funding from the community for the treatment of pets like Sparky.
Sparky’s body condition was rated a 2 on a scale of 1 to 9, whereas 1 is the worst condition an animal can be in.

Upon further testing and medical evaluations, LHS discovered Sparky had many infections, including an upper respiratory infection and whipworms.
Sparky is now being treated by several medications and is receiving a well-nourished high-calorie diet, designed to help him to gain weight.
The young dog currently only weighs 32 pounds, but according to LHS staff, “Sparky is in good spirits and loves spending time with LHS staff. This young dog has so much life left to live!”
The staff at LHS is continuing to monitor Sparky closely to ensure he safely gains 10-15 pounds while healing from his current medical conditions.
LHS is encouraging the community to donate to help cover the expenses of Sparky’s treatment by visiting this link.
