Taps & Tails, Cleveland's first dog park and bar, thriving in 4th year: Ready Pet GO!

There's something for both dogs and humans at Taps & Tails, an indoor/outdoor dog park and bar in Tremont.

CLEVELAND — It's the best of a pup-friendly patio and a neighborhood dog park all in one: when it opened in 2021 Taps & Tails became Cleveland's first indoor/outdoor dog bar. And as we found out, it's the place to be for all of Cleveland's cool dogs on a steamy summer's day.

"I like to call it an amusement park for dogs," co-owner Eric Hollender said And our vision is to create a safe, fun and comfortable environment for for all the dogs."

Taps & Tails is the brainchild of Lisa and Eric Hollender, who had a vision for a place their energetic Australian Shepherd could play, while they socialized with other dog parents. They found the perfect spot on Train Avenue, in Tremont — right next to the Cleveland APL.

They bravely opened up during the pandemic, and never looked back.

"Our business was conducive to people not being all congested, with an 8,000 sq. foot yard outside. We knew that we were going to face obstacles whether it was COVID or not," Eric Hollender said as we chatted with him in the bar area of the establishment.

A tour of the indoor/outdoor play yard for pups shows lots of room for them to romp and play. There are obstacles for those dogs that enjoy showing off their agility skills, tubs of water for those that like to splash around, with misters spraying cool water and plenty of cover to offer shade. Indoors, overhead fans keep air circulating, making it comfortable for dogs and employees who need a break from the sun.

Taps & Tails offers supervised play for pups and a social setting with food and drinks for their humans.

Elevated dog beds are welcome spots for pups ready to rest.

Taps & Tails is a doggy daycare and dog park. In order to utilize either service, dogs must be registered in their system, and fully up to date on vaccinations. Safety of dogs and guests is priority No. 1.

Temperament tests are also part of the orientation process; you'll notice "Bark Rangers" supervising play at all times to ensure it stays fun.

"They're going to make sure that your dog leaves, in the same condition that they entered. So they're making sure that this place is going to be safe," Eric Hollender said.

And then there are the treats for pups too. The doggie ice cream is a big hit this time of year.

There's plenty on tap too for social drinkers or teetotalers, with food at the ready. Drinks have fun Taps & Tails names, like "Sun's Out, Tongues Out," and "Barkberry Bramble." "Ruff the Magic Dragon" contains Dragonberry Rum, guava, agave, soda and mint, for a refreshing summer cooler.

Taps & Tails has plenty of events going on to amp up the summer fun. We visited during "Shark Week." They also plan frequent events to support local rescues and shelters.
