CLEVELAND — Leave it to the Cleveland Metroparks to find snowy owls in the oddest of places!
Late last week, Marty Calabrese, a naturalist with the Metroparks, tweeted that he spotted two snowy owls hanging out at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
The airport?
"They like the airport because it's flat like the Arctic tundra, where they're from. It's open and full of rodents, which is what they like to feed on," says Tim Jasinski, Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center.
Jasinski told 3News' Carl Bachtel that the snowy owls also are attracted to the lakefront area because it's open and full of waterfowl and gulls.
"We have the best birding spots here in Cleveland. The airport is one of the cool spots to look for these birds," Jasinski adds.
There have been no shortage of photographers who have headed over to Hopkins Airport to try to get a glimpse of these beautiful snowy owls. Jasinski, Jen Marie Photography, and Donna & Matt Beery were all kind enough to allow 3News to use their pictures in the gallery below:

Back in November, Cleveland Metroparks reported that a snowy owl spotted at Mosquito Lake in mecca was the first “snowy” owl to be found this winter in the state.
