Child sends police apology for calling 911 by mistake

Police say parents shouldn't assume their old cell phones can't still make emergency calls.
Streetsboro police apology letter.

STREETSBORO -- A child has written an apology letter to Streetsboro police for mistakenly calling 911 from a disconnected cell phone.

The department posted the letter on its Facebook page. It reads:

"Dear officer,

I'm really sorry I called you for no reason. Thank you for not taking me to jail. I'm really sorry and WONT EVER DO IT AGAIN I PROMIS."

Police say they appreciate the letter. The department says it's also a great opportunity to remind everyone that cell phones even WITHOUT service or minutes will still make calls to 911.

Police ask parents to be aware of this in the event they let children play with their old phone.
