How to make the most of summer with outdoor workouts

Summer is winding down, but there's still time to reach your fitness goals.

SOLON, Ohio — It’s hard to believe summer is already winding down, but if you had getting fit on your list of things to do this summer—don’t worry you still have time and we have some tips.

3News' Kierra Cotton met with fitness guru Katie Pollock at Solon Community Park for tips on the best workouts you can do while enjoying the great outdoors.

The workout began with the basics, a run or walk depending on your skill level.

"Start at your own pace. Do what you're comfortable with, especially if you're coming in with no fitness experience. Just always go with what you're comfortable with," Pollack advised. "So I can start with an easy walk. Put on some good running, walking shoes that are comfortable for your feet. Yeah, you know, comfortable exercise apparel and just get out there. Just go."

Next, we moved on to some exercises that require a bit more technique. We tackled squats and completer exercises using resistance bands. According to Pollack, if you don't have bands you can also do many exercises using your body weight.

And if you're just getting started on your fitness journey, you may be wondering 'How do I know how many reps to do for each exercise?'

"For somebody just starting, let's try ten reps of every charge," explained Pollock. "If you're starting from nothing, some starting from ground zero and you need to build up from there, you again, you go with comfort reigns. You do as long as you can do a good amount of whatever you're doing with good, proper form that you're fine. As soon as you start losing form or you feel like you're getting extremely uncomfortable, breathless, then you need to scale back," she continued.

And when it comes to getting fit, it’s not something you can do in just one day or even overnight.

"Think about it, it is an all-encompassing lifestyle. So you want to be healthy on a daily basis for everything you do, just not to look good in a dress or a suit or whatever you want it to. You want to always feel good," said Pollock.

The great thing about fitness and working out is that it's for everyone--- it doesn't matter your age or fitness level. The key to a successful workout is to just get started!!
