CLEVELAND — Kindness, caring, and respect were on full display during the Values Matter benefit dinner on Thursday night at Landerhaven.
Several communitiy leaders were honored by the nonprofit, Values in Action, including Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue Rabbi Jeffrey Myers.
Rabbi Myers received the Rescuer of Humanity award for how he stood in the face of evil during the shooting at his synagogue in 2018.
Rabbi Myers says its important for our communities to stop using hateful language.
"The more we use severe language, it always leads to violence," Rabbi Myers told the audience. "Such as the kind that happened in my synagogue, when 11 people were gunned down for the crime of being Jewish."
Rabbi Myers says he is thankful for the award, but his greatest reward has been being alive.
Values In Action is non-profit organization that helps adults and students learn how to make positive and value-based decisions.
