'I saw a head and I had to pull over': Baby born at fast-food restaurant

The baby was born in a parking lot of an Arizona Carl's Jr. after mom and dad couldn't get to the hospital quickly enough.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — One Arizona baby decided to make his debut earlier than expected.

The baby was born in a parking lot of an Arizona Carl's Jr. after mom and dad couldn't get to the hospital quickly enough.

Pilar Weidman said it was around 7 p.m. when she noticed her contractions getting closer together, so she asked her husband to take her to the hospital.

“Not even 10 minutes down the road I was begging him to call 911 because I could just feel the contractions were getting so bad,” Pilar said.

At first Dustin, her husband, said he thought everything was normal because this was their fourth child but quickly realized something was out of the norm.

“After a while, it was not normal. I saw a head and I had to pull over and take out the baby and give it to Mama,” Dustin said.

The 911 dispatcher told the couple to get off the interstate. The couple pulled off the interstate and stopped at a red light.

“[The dispatch] was so nice, and she's like, ‘Do you see, is she crowning? and then [my husband’s like], “Oh, it's out,” Pilar said “And just one big push, and [the baby] was here, and I went into shock.”

The family pulled into the Carl’s Jr. parking lot and said the EMT showed up quickly.

“EMT got to us like within seconds, it was so fast,” Pilar said. “It was like they were waiting around the corner, it was so fast.”

Pilar was able to record the EMT cutting the umbilical cord on her baby.

“I got a good selfie of everyone in the ambulance,” Pilar said. “They were so nice and funny, and they were all excited.”

Pilar and Dustin said it was an unforgettable experience and said even though their baby made it to Carl’s Jr. they decided to name him David.

“I should get Carl's Jr for life, which would be cool,” Pilar joked.
