Making body acceptance a resolution this year: Mom Squad with 3News' Maureen Kyle

So many of us try to change our shape and size. But giving yourself grace and focusing on health will be beneficial to you and your family.

CLEVELAND — Maybe on January 1 you promised this would be the year you fit into those old jeans. Or maybe you want to lose the baby weight, or you are secretly wishing to have a different number on the scale. So many of us make losing weight a priority when the calendar flips but are we really focusing on what really matters?

Today on Mom Squad, Dr. Francoise Adan, with University Hospitals, explains how comparison, wanting to look like someone else you see in a magazine or on social media, is not going to be what motivates you.

“It's back to, what's important to us? I want to be fit so I can play with my grandchildren. I want to be there for my children as they grow older. That's probably my main motivation,” says Dr. Adan.

She explains that motivation is better than any to get to the gym or work on your physical heath.

“To look like her or, that's not going to be enough. That's not going to sustain inspiration and discipline,” says Adan.

Comparison will never be sustainable for long term results.

Dr. Adan and Maureen Kyle also discuss the importance of body acceptance in the New Year, which means loving your body including the flaws and unique qualities.

Doing this will also impact how your children view themselves, their health and their own shape.
