CLEVELAND — It's August and that means we are desperately hanging onto the precious summer time we have left, and at the same time, frantically back to school shopping. Did you know, the National Retail Federation says this school year will be the most expensive back-to-school shopping season ever?
That means you are really going to have to crunch some numbers and price compare. The good news is that we are doing that for you.
We took some of the most common 16 items on every back-to-school list, like the 16-count of Crayola crayons, Elmer’s glue sticks, highlighters, erasers, spiral notebooks and pocket folders. Then we went online to four of the most popular places to buy supplies: Walmart, Target, Amazon and Staples.
When we crunched all these numbers and totaled up our cart, Amazon was the most expensive, costing $90.40 for our entire list. Target's tab was $66.36, Staples total came to $49.09. The cheapest was Walmart! For all the same supplies, the total bill was $47.67 cents.
There were a couple amazon items you got a more in a pack, but not significantly more. Also, for things like the pocket folders where we were looking at packs of 6, you can get one folder for 50 cents at pretty much every retailer.
