How to tell if your teen is vaping: Mom Squad with 3News' Maureen Kyle

Even though rates of teen vaping slightly decreased, many teens and middle schoolers are still experimenting. A pediatric pulmonologist explains the danger.

CLEVELAND — If you have a high schooler, chances are they've used an e-cigarette or vaping device. A recent study done last year found 40 percent of high schoolers say they vaped at least 20 days out of a month. 30 percent reported vaping every day.

And that's just at the high school level. Many middle school aged kids also admitted to trying e-cigarettes.

It's hard to detect or tell if your kid is using, but on today's Mom Squad, Maureen Kyle talks with a Cleveland Clinic pediatric pulmonologist who says kids aren't realizing is how potent the vape is.

“If they use 1 or 2 pods a day, it seems like they are using 10 packs of cigarettes and they don't know because they change the formula and it doesn't bother them when they are using and they don't find out until it's too late,” says Dr. Fariba Rezaee.

Dr. Rezaee talks about what signs to look out for to see if your child is using a vaping product and what long term damage can occur. You can catch the entire interview on Mom Squad, streaming on WKYC Plus and the WKYC YouTube page.
