CLEVELAND — With the kitchen always open, kids always at my feet and no where else to go, I feel like I’m a short order chef (pun intended?)
“Mom, can I have a snack??”
After the fifth time of them asking, I want to say: “Make your own!” But I can’t, can I?
I found an adorable idea on Pinterest (so I can’t take credit) to make “Under the Sea” graham crackers. This is something that takes very little set up and then the kids do all the work.
What you need:
- Graham crackers
- Frosting (if you have white frosting, add blue food coloring)
- Goldfish
- Sprinkles
I mixed together the frosting and food coloring for them. If you don’t have canned frosting, but you have powdered sugar, you can mix it with a little bit of milk to make your own. But otherwise, all I had to do was set out the toppings and let them get creative!
I crushed some graham crackers to make “sand” out of crumbs. I also had little pearl sprinkles that made for the best “bubbles." Left over Swedish Fish from Halloween made for the perfect finishing touch.
This was definitely more of a “treat” than healthy snack. But they put a lot of time and effort into it, so snack time wasn’t as fleeting as it typically can be.
