Overcoming obstacles to achieve your New Year's resolution goals: Mom Squad with 3News' Maureen Kyle

When making big resolutions for the New Year, usually people get in their own way of accomplishing those goals. A motivational speaker explains how to overcome it.

CLEVELAND — It’s the time of year many people make resolutions. But we also hear statistics about people not being able to stick to those resolutions for long. It’s a mental game to overcome obstacles and challenges in our way.

In today's Mom Squad, Motivational speaker, Cicely Campbell, talks about why it can be so hard to stick to resolutions. She says too many people aren't setting goals that they are passionate about.

And for women, believing they can achieve these lofty goals can be difficult.

“Women, we are natural nurturers, we tend to take care of everyone but ourselves. So, it’s really difficult for us to define sometimes who we really are,” says Campbell.

“Men have no issues rattling off all their successes, ‘I’m this, I’m that.’ Women tend to define themselves as others see them. So, we need to start the process of who am I, what do I like, who am I to the core? Really what makes me happy.”

Campbell says women should list 10 things they like about themselves. This will help build confidence, help women realize they are worthy of change and effort and that their goals matter.

Campbell also explains why finding a tribe with similar goals can help motivate you in the new year.
