What viruses to watch out for in December: Mom Squad with 3News' Maureen Kyle

It is sick season! And its a safe bet someone in your household has already come down with a virus. A doctor talks about what symptoms need to be taken seriously.

CLEVELAND — We are just starting cold and flu season. The CDC estimates there was as many as 2.6 million flu cases in the U.S. between October through November. They also estimate that between 12,000 to 27,000 people were hospitalized.

In today's Mom Squad, Maureen Kyle talks to Dr. Candis Platt-Houston, of MetroHealth Medical Cente, about what viruses are really making the rounds right now.

“I think you're seeing the start of all of them. The flu you are seeing as early as September and it goes through the spring,” says Platt-Houston.

“Same thing with all of them. So, all of the numbers are trending upward. And again, we are seeing RSV. And again, RSV can lead to pneumonia bronchiolitis, so you may see wheezing with the RSV," says Platt-Houston.

In this episode, we also discuss which symptoms you should monitor, and which ones need a trip to the doctor or urgent care.  We also talk about how to stay healthy, which vitamins or supplements can help and which ones don't.
