CLEVELAND — Bertman, maker of Cleveland's iconic ballpark mustard, has ditched the Cleveland Indians' old Chief Wahoo logo from its labels.
The brand announced new labels in a news release Wednesday, but noted that the mustard recipe remains the same.
“The main driver of the update was the retirement of the Cleveland Indians longtime logo," Bertman CEO Michael Mintz said in the news release. "It has been on our bottle for years and because we needed to modify one label, we took the opportunity to revamp our entire product line and present a more cohesive brand look and feel."
According to Bertman, the brand was required by the Indians to change the label as an official partner. All partners must now use the team's 'block C' logo.
This year marks the Indians' first season without Chief Wahoo as the team moves away from the controversial logo. Chief Wahoo will remain on merchandise in the Indians' team shop, but will no longer appear on the team's uniforms.
