CLEVELAND — We're halfway through Cleveland Burger Week!
The annual summer burger fest kicked off Monday and runs through Sunday. Thirty area restaurants in all parts of town are serving up $6 burgers in honor of the festivities, and participants range from corner joints like the 49th Street Tavern and Rowley Inn and Sirna’s to trendy spots such as Nano Brew and Market Garden and The Ivy.
Each restaurant is featuring one or two options to showcase their unique take on the American standard. In honor of the meaty fun, we asked Clevelanders to share recommendations for their favorite burgers.
Facebook reader Ryan Smith proclaimed his love for Bearden’s, the 71-year-old Cleveland classic in Rocky River known for its peanut butter-topped burgers, saying "Bearden’s all day!"
Twitter user "Be better" voted for the Fat Doug at B-Spot, a towering sandwich made with pastrami, coleslaw, Bertman's Stadium Mustard and Swiss cheese.
Clevelander John O’Brien, publisher of the Irish American News, says Gunselman’s in Fairview Park is the best. Their Burger Week offering is "The Lil G," a brisket-short-rib-chuck mix burger topped with sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, American cheese and pickles on a brioche bun. The Gunselman’s love was seconded by Danielle Danburg.
3News Digital Anchor Stephanie Haney chose two vegetarian options as her favorite, the Impossible Burgers at Lago on the Flats East Bank and Wahlburgers.
If you haven’t had a burger yet this week, there’s still time to get in on the fun. If you want to challenge yourself, Burger Week Passports are available at participating restaurants and at burgerweekcleveland.com. Passports list all participating restaurants and their burgers, as well as if they serve vegetarian options. Diners who collect five or more stamps will be entered to win the Ultimate Grill Out, compliments of the Ohio Beef Council, and $250 in gift cards.
