CLEVELAND — There's a new sweet spot giving people a second chance at life.
EDWINS Bakery, a branch of the EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute, opens its doors to Cleveland's Buckeye-Shaker neighborhood Friday morning.
EDWINS is more than a bakery. It's a second shot at a better life for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Founded by Brandon Chrowstowki, the EDWINS concept teaches these individuals skills for a successful path in the hospitality industry. They learn culinary skills spanning from kitchen to front-of-house in order to take the next steps toward a successful re-entry. They also receive assistance in finding employment once they complete a six-month program.
EDWINS began with its Shaker Square fine dining restaurant in 2013. The EDWINS Second Chance Life Skills Center followed in 2016, and the EDWINS Butcher Shop followed two years later.
Now, the bakery and cafe is the latest installment in Chrostowski's mission to help others.
Chrostowski, who previously ran for Cleveland mayor, has worked in restaurants in Chicago, Paris and New York City.
