CLEVELAND — There’s a new restaurant coming to the Playhouse Square district in Cleveland this winter known as The Friars’ Table -- and it’s from the team behind EDWINS Restaurant & Leadership Institute.
The Friar’s Table, which is set to open at 1305 Euclid Ave., is a collaboration between Brandon Chrostowski of EDWINS along with Cleveland Capuchin Ministries led by Fr. Philip Bernier, who is known to many as Brother Phil.
“The goal of the restaurant is to give the city not only a great restaurant, but hope,” said Chrostowski, who will be curating the content, menu and assembling the culinary team. “We want to create a beautiful space where people can come together over good food, and leave feeling inspired and uplifted.”
While the opening date has not yet been announced, we do know the restaurant will feature a seasonal menu inspired by monastic cuisine.
“The menu will blend monastic tradition with modern innovation, emphasizing wholesome, nourishing ingredients,” according to a press release. “Some of the opening dishes will include Fish A La Mont Athos (stewed branzino), roasted lamb shoulder, caramelized turnips and a monastic cheese plate.”
Brother Phil also shared his vision for the restaurant, drawing inspiration from the life and teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi.
“Saint Francis, the first friar, lived in a world of great transition, much like our own,” he said. “Instead of seeking wealth and power, he found his life's passion by living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus in simplicity, embracing the dignity of the human person, and with a great respect for the gift of all creation."
Founded by Chrostowski, the EDWINS organization “provides formerly incarcerated adults with a foundation in the culinary and hospitality industries and the support network for long-term success.”
