A pair of local chefs have been named as semifinalists for the James Beard Awards presented by Capital One.
The James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Awards were created back in 1991 and contain a number of different categories that can bring recognition to restaurants and chefs.
The categories for awards are Outstanding Restaurateur, Outstanding Chef, Outstanding Restaurant, Emerging Chef, Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Pastry Chef, Outstanding Baker, Outstanding Hospitality, Outstanding Wine Program, Outstanding Bar Program, and the best chef in a variety of different regions.
In the category of Outstanding Restaurateur, Brandon Chrostowski of EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute was named as one of 20 semifinalists in that category. Chrostowski was the only semifinalist from Ohio.
The other nominee locally came in the Great Lakes region of the Best Chef category. Jill Vedaa of Salt+ in Lakewood was one of 20 chefs to be named as a semifinalist. She was one of two nominees from Ohio, joining Jose Salazar from Salazar in Cincinnati.
The awards winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards on June 13 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
