BRUNSWICK, Ohio — When it comes to pizza, we all know that New York is famous for its thin crust and Chicago is famous for the deep dish. Here in Ohio, we aren't necessary famous for a signature style -- but Nick Robson, owner of Ohio Pie Co., is trying to change that.
A lifelong pizza lover, Robson started Ohio Pie Co. in Brunswick back in 2019.
"It was always my fat-kid dream," Robson laughed. "I always wanted to open up a pizza shop for whatever stupid reason."
A fat-kid dream that has now become Robson's pizza reality.
"It had to be a pizza. I worked in pizza my whole life. I don't like rules, so when it came to pizza I make up my own style, make my own way," he said.
A style that's a melting pot of all of Robson's favorite elements in one pie.
"We've never really had our own style, so I figured I'd at least give it a shot," he said. "Maybe if people get behind it right? So far, it's worked out all right."
Spoiler alert: It caught on.
After opening in 2019, they've now expanded to two locations, sold thousands of pizzas and have served countless satisfied customers.
So what exactly is Ohio style?
It's a crustless pan pizza, loaded with toppings and a swirl of sweet sauce on top.
A style that has caught fire because Robson followed his gut.
