Sokolowski’s closes temporarily amid coronavirus pandemic

'Out of an abundance of caution, thinking of our staff, family and customers, we have made the difficult decision to close during this time.'

CLEVELAND — Sokolowski’s University Inn has temporarily shut down its operations amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – including carryout and online orders.

The iconic Cleveland restaurant, which was ranked No. 2 on the list of best cafeterias in America last year, announced their decision to close on Monday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, thinking of our staff, family and customers, we have made the difficult decision to close during this time,” Sokolowski’s posted on their Facebook page. “The amount of support we’ve received has truly been overwhelming.”

Remember, this closure is only temporary. You will be able to sink your teeth into their legendary stuffed cabbage, pierogies and kielbasa again “very soon.”

“For 97 years, we’ve been feeding the people of Cleveland and we promise to be back very soon," Sokolowski's officials said. "We look forward to seeing all of you when we reopen! Be safe and God Bless!”

Back on March 15, Gov. Mike DeWine ordered the closure of all restaurants and bars to help spread the slow of coronavirus, while allowing carryout orders to continue.

Sokolowski's has been receiving an outpouring of support on social media:

  • "When this ends, you can bet my family and I will be back... God bless you all for being safe and helping so many."
  • "Stay safe and rest up cuz you are going to have a loooooong line when this has passed!"
  • "Boy I am happy we ordered on Friday, but was it crazy there trying to pick up food. You will be missed but you need to keep yourself a safe and your employees."
  • "We want you back when it is safe for your family and coworkers. We will be waiting....."
  • "Glad I came last week to get the family chicken paprikash. Stay safe. May God Bless!"
