WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — Get ready for some Galley Boy goodness because Swensons, the iconic Akron burger chain that got its start in 1934, is expanding with a new location in Willoughby.
The Northeast Ohio-based burger chain is celebrating the start of construction at the new site in Willoughby on Tuesday afternoon with a visit from the Swensons food truck. The first 100 customers will get a free Galley Boy burger, which is the signature Swensons sandwich.
The event takes place from 5-7 p.m. at 34725 Euclid Avenue in Willoughby, which is located near the intersection with Som Center Road.
An opening date for the new location has not yet been announced, but watch for more details soon.
Best known for its Galley Boy -- a double cheeseburger smothered in two homemade sauces -- Swensons is frequently ranked among the best burger spots in America. It's even a favorite of Akron native LeBron James.
"I get a double cheeseburger, and onion rings," James previously revealed during an interview at the I PROMISE School in Akron. "And then I get a banana milkshake with real ice cream. I have a nice little feast."
But did you know Swensons also has a secret menu? We have details of the special food options HERE.
