All-Star in Your Life: A selfless daughter, friend and teacher's aide

Meghan Bostwick has been a giver her whole life. But now, it's time to give back to her.

CLEVELAND — The best kind of "givers" are the ones who never ask for anything in return.

"She does so much for so many people. I couldn't even think of at all," David Bostwick said of his daughter, Meghan.

You see, Meghan has giving in her bones. Born to teenage parents, she learned early on how to care for others.

"They were young parents, so they were working a lot and gone a lot and Meghan would take care of us ... me and my brother, Chris, and make sure that we had clean clothes and cook dinners," said Meghan's brother, David, Jr.

She doesn't just give to her family, though. Meghan gives in the classroom, too, as a special needs teacher's aide in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. And, as a devoted daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend.

"If somebody comes to the door, she will get up and go fix them a plate and they'll go home with some food. She's just that kind of person," David said.

She's a loving aunt, helping to raise and take care of her brother's children.

"She's the first one to notice if there's a coat that needs to be replaced or shoes," her dad said. "She is just an amazing person. I'm not saying that just because she's my daughter. She's the most amazing person I know."

We told Meghan about her dad's submission for All-Star in Your Life. Here's what he wrote, below:

"A true unsung hero? My daughter Meghan. She is a teacher's aide in CMSD and has had finalists in America Scores combining sports/poetry. She has volunteered for levy campaigns and organizes other colleagues' parties, retirement gifts etc,. At home, (she) is the cool aunt and mighty advocate for my son's three children during the divorce and subsequent visitations. She is raising (filling the mother role) for our three-year-old grandson, who lives with us. She is a friend and advocate for a Syrian family who lives near us, helping their family complete paperwork, etc., to get their sons into St. Ignatius and again into Ohio State University. Also, advocating as a tutor, obtaining other needed services. Additionally, she is a devoted granddaughter who looks after my 85-year-old father with food, homemade soups and other care while my 82-year-old mother is in hospice in memory care in Westlake. She is a fun loving person, often including others in her planning, inviting extended family, friends and always planning birthdays, buying gifts (and needed items in between special days: coats, boots, etc.) and hosting or assisting in hosting various events. In short, she is the most selfless person I know, and if you consider her, there are many who would be thrilled that she is being recognized for all she does for so many people, and for so many pets, as well."

"I certainly don't do it for the recognition. I do it, outta love. My grandma taught me to take care of others," Meghan said through tears. "And, that's what I do."

And her dad's support and love?

"I think of people who don't have that in their life, who don't have a dad that backs them up 100% all of the time. We're, we're good friends ... we've always been," an emotional Meghan said.

To express our thank you, we teamed up with the Cavs to gift Meghan four tickets to a regular-season game.

Thank you, Meghan, for being a community all-star!
