CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Thanks to some special people, not even the coronavirus could stop Addie from getting her favorite food during the current pandemic.

The 9-year-old has been dealing with cancer, first undergoing radiation treatment, now chemo at UH Rainbow’s Babies & Children’s Hospital.

Because of the COVID-19 crisis causing restaurants to shut down their dining rooms, Addie and her family have not been able to enjoy their usual trips to their favorite restaurant, Barrio Tacos.

Addie’s mom, Mandy, expressed to the team at A Special Wish Cleveland that Addie has not had an appetite during her chemo treatment and has been craving one thing, and one thing only: Barrio queso!

So A Special Wish Cleveland reached out to Barrio‘s leadership team and Executive Chef Nico Chesnick jumped at the opportunity to fulfill Addie's craving. Barrio decided to turn their lights back on and privately invite Addie, her brother, and their parents for a VIP Queso Tasting in Cleveland Heights.

The family came straight from Addie’s appointment at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and made their way to Barrio Tacos to meet Nico.

Respecting social distancing and health guidelines, Chef Nico invited Addie and her brother into the kitchen to help prepare their queso. Once it was ready, Addie and her family hurried back to the table to enjoy endless queso & salsa – and were given extra queso, salsa & chips to enjoy throughout the week at home! In addition, Addie and her brother were given cool Barrio gear.
