CANTON, Ohio — Just in time for Thanksgiving, the leaders of Mercy Medical Center are holding a surprise appreciation event for staff on the hospital grounds Tuesday night.

3News was invited to be there for the surprise festivities. You can watch it on WKYC.com, the WKYC app, Facebook Live and YouTube.

Hospital leaders say the appreciation event is for staff who are caring for all patients, including the surge of coronavirus patients.

Barbara Yingling, senior vice president and CNO at Mercy Medical Center, will say the overhead prayer this evening and then ask staff to look out their patient windows.

Mercy Medical Center invited its Board Members, Service League members, executive staff, managers, non-clinical staff–and their family members–to come line up in areas around Mercy where they will be seen from every ICU patient room and every other patient room in the hospital.

They will be holding a light while cheering and clapping for caregivers.
