CLEVELAND — There's a lot of of movement at Cavs games: The players, the cheering, and the commotion on the floor.
Next time you head to the game, keep your eyes out for some gold jackets: A senior dance crew that proves age won't stop a good groove! They're the Wine and Goldies, and they've got something to prove with each performance.
“Wine and Goldies are 50 and older men and women to show that they still have moves and we still have a little bit of groove," member, 64-year-old Pamela Thomas said.
Each member has groove, and different reasons for being there.
“It’s about seniors coming together and showing that we’re not ready to be put out to pasture. We still got a lot of life to us. We wanna break the impression that we’re in our sunset years,” member, Steven Pastor said. “I like to dance. I’ve been dancing with a men’s chorus for 17 years.”
“You love the energy you get back from the crowd,” Thomas said. “They cheer and they laugh, clap … they stand up and they dance with us.”
Thomas is used to breaking a sweat on the court. Between her dancing gigs, she's a longtime basketball referee at both the collegiate and high school level.
“I’ve been officiating 24 years. I do a lot of CYO basketball because I don’t forget where I came from,” Thomas said.
Now, she's waiting in the wings with her crew before each performance at Rocket Mortgage Field House.
For this group, age ain't nothing but a number.
“Oh, absolutely. Because as you can see how we’re performing, or at least I’m not acting my age!” Pastor said.
The Wine and Goldies perform once a month at halftime at Cavs games.
