Happy Lunar New Year, Northeast Ohio!
Tuesday marks the beginning of a new calendar for many Asian communities around the globe. Close to home, restaurants and shops in AsiaTown Cleveland rung in the holiday, which is also called Spring Festival, with celebrations and traditional dishes.
Among the most common foods eaten in observance of Lunar New Year are dishes like bánh tét, bánh chưng, and nian gao-- which are sticky rice cakes that symbolize growth in the New Year. These culinary specialties can be found at Tink Holl, Park to Shop, and Good Harvest.
Looking for fresh nian gao? According to a post on AsiaTown Cleveland's Facebook, Koko Bakery will have the food fresh and ready for patrons, in addition to traditional candy trays, dried fruits, nuts, and other delights.
Of course, the holiday wouldn't be complete without celebrations, though.
Lion dances will be perfomed at Li Wah by the company from Kwan Lion on February 4 and 5, at Asia Plaza on February 5, and at Asian Town Center on February 6.
Additionally, AsiaTown Cleveland highly recommends that you support local this Lunar New Year and treat yourself to some delicious food from a Northeast Ohio restaurant.
"Celebrations must include a feast," a post from AsiaTown Cleveland reads. "Eat at or order out from one (or several) of AsiaTown’s 20+ restaurants!"
