CLEVELAND — Another one of Northeast Ohio's most anticipated holiday shopping events of the year has been canceled.
Organizers for I-X Christmas Connection announced Wednesday that the event would no longer be taking place this year due to concerns surrounding the ongoing pandemic.
"While we had hoped to once again fill the I-X Center with the magic of Christmas, the health and safety of everyone is our top priority," event officials said in a statement posted to their website.
For more than three decades, the I-X Christmas Connection has kicked off the holiday shopping season, allowing residents to come and take part in the joy through various shopping vendors, activities, live entertainment and appearances.
However, this year, as the state is seeing a rise in Coronavirus cases-- the magic was halted before it could begin.
" With the growing number of Coronavirus cases and with the Governor’s order to indefinitely ban all mass gatherings, we have come to this decision to cancel," the statement read.
Many supporters of the event took to social media to share their disappointment in the event cancellation, even offering suggestions for a virtual experience.
"Is there a way to do a virtual one or have pictures and list of companies? Absolutely live what I could walk away with. Especially the canvas pictures and stuff for guys," wrote Tiffany Curson.
Denise Morrison also chimed in saying, " Totally understand and respect your decision. Doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed too. Been coming from Michigan for the last six years. Hope everyone stays safe and will look forward to next year. "
And she's right, there's always next year. Organizers are already planning for a bigger and better experience for shoppers.
"So, as we halt preparations for this year’s event, our team will focus their efforts on the 2021 I-X Christmas Connection (November 19-21, 2021) to ensure the BEST holiday shopping experience around, " the statement concluded.
