ELYRIA, Ohio — Robert O’Conner of Elyria now has the largest collection of "Ghostbusters" memorabilia anywhere in the world.
And yes, it is official.
O’Conner says he first saw the iconic film at the age of 4 and that he has been collecting ever since. Today, he has amassed more than 1,200 unique items, and his collection is growing. It even includes an "ecto pack" signed by actor and comedian Dan Akroyd.
Of all the great ‘80s films, Andrew Horansky asked O’Conner why "Ghostbusters" stuck with him.
"I loved 'Star Wars,' 'Indiana Jones,' 'Goonies,' all the ‘80s movies," O’Conner said. "But with 'Ghostbusters' you didn’t have to have powers, you didn’t have to be smart, you didn’t have to be super-strong or fast or any of those things, you know? You had to have the courage and the ability to face the unknown."
O’Conner said he reached out to Guinness at the beginning of the year to validate his collection. They visited him this summer, and then informed him this month that he made the book, just in time for Halloween.
