Rockefeller Center Christmas tree's unofficial Twitter account run by Olmsted Falls native

"Literally a million people come by every day to take a selfie with it, and I thought there’s a story there.”

NEW YORK — Wednesday was a big night in the world of Christmas traditions, as the lighting ceremony for the 30 Rock Tree was held in New York City.

However, you may not know that the tree has an unofficial Twitter account, and it's run by a man from Northeast Ohio.

The page is pretty clever. For instance, on Wednesday, the tree continued its friendly feud with the Today Show's Al Roker. It said the people involved did not need another rehearsal before the lighting, everyone involved is good at what they do.

But it did question exactly what it is Roker does.

The Twitter handle @30RockTree is actually Matt Haze, an Olmsted Falls native.

Haze told 3News he was intrigued by the back story of the tree, which launched the Twitter account.

“It’s a tree that comes from a tiny town. It’s brought into the city with a police escort, put up, decked out. It gets a big TV show. Literally a million people come by every day to take a selfie with it, and I thought there’s a story there.”

He started the account and it took off. He said it started as a fun thing, but it turned into an outlet to create comedy and unique insights to living in New York.

Haze lived in New York for 10 years. He now lives in Puerto Rico where he runs a media production company.

Here's what Haze wrote once the tree was lit up on Wednesday:
