CLEVELAND — Valentine's Day arrives this Sunday! If you haven't gotten your significant other a gift yet, the clock is ticking.
According to RetailMeNot, the most-wanted gift for Valentine's Day in 2021 is chocolate. No real surprise there. 44% of American's expect it, but only 39% of partners are planning on buying it for their special someone.
The second-hottest gift is a nice dinner at a restaurant. 42% of American's expect to be wined and dined, but only 35% of partners are actually planning on taking their loved ones out on the town.
Also topping the most-wanted gifts this year: Flowers, jewelry and experiences like a vacation.
But how much should you be shelling out? The longer you have been with your special someone, the more you're expected to spend on them! Those dating for two years is around $156 or $243 if engaged. If you're recently married, an average of $317 is expected. For those married for more than a decade, the price tag averages $467!
If you haven't bought your present yet, you're not alone. 53% of Americans say they buy their gifts within the week of the holiday.
