CLEVELAND — Friends, family, and colleagues across the country are still in shock following the sudden death of sports reporter Carley McCord Saturday.
The 30-year-old McCord was one of five killed in a plane crash in Lafayette, Louisiana. She had been on her way to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, where her father-in-law Steve Ensminger was about to help lead the No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers in the College Football Playoff as offensive coordinator.
A Baton Rouge native, McCord had been working in New Orleans for NBC affiliate WDSU. She also kept plenty busy as a sideline reporter for the Saints and Pelicans, as well as with Cox Sports and ESPN.
Before returning home, however, McCord began her professional broadcasting career in Cleveland. She was an in-house reporter for the Browns for about a year and later worked at Q104.1 as a member of the station's morning show.
Following McCord's passing, her former colleagues from across the Northeast Ohio took to social media to pay tribute. Her time here was brief, but she clearly left a lasting impact.
Many viewers and listeners in the area also payed their respects, lovingly remembering her time here.
