AKRON, Ohio — LeBron James may have just became the all-time NBA scorer, and made the city of Akron proud, but there's another Akron native looking to do the same. His name is Kofi Boakye and he's pianist, who's talents have taken him all over the country.
"I like music because it's a vehicle that allows me to really showcase everything that I'm capable of doing. I look at myself as more than just a musician. I always say that it's bigger than music," he explained. "In my case, I love to put on a show. I like to entertain people and because I do music in a very energetic way so to speak, I can get people to really understand what I'm saying when I do that.
On Saturday, Boakye, whose stage name is Kofi B is returning to his hometown for a special Valentine's Day weekend performance. He is scheduled to perform an entertaining and exciting show at the Akron Civic Theater at 8 p.m. It's first time performing locally since appearing in the Whitney Houston biopic, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and his latest appearance on the Apollo which he's won a total of seven times.
"You can expect a high energy show, a show that's filled with a lot of excitement," explained Kofi. " I'm just excited to be back home and I'm excited to really just show the world what kids from Akron are made and also show Akron what a product from Akron looks like on a music level."
