CLEVELAND — Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce you to a charming, Celtic force of nature named Bridget Campbell Conway. A Clevelander by way of County Mayo, Ireland, she's a mother of five, a grandmother of six, and a surrogate mother to countless members of Cleveland's Irish-American community.
That's most certainly why she has been named the 2023 Irish Mother of the Year, an honor bestowed upon her by the United Irish Societies of Greater Cleveland. Fittingly, Bridget was honored at the annual Cleveland St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Conway's daughter Rose says she's not surprised her mom received this special acknowledgement, but to say Bridget herself is excited about this honor would be a mild understatement! I met Her Majesty at her favorite local haunt — P.J. McIntyre's in Kamm's Corner — and when pressed to describe what the honor of being named Irish Mother Of The Year meant to her, in true Irish Mother fashion she deflected the compliments and gave credit to everyone but herself for the better part of an hour.
Having now had the pleasure of personally engaging with Greater Cleveland's Irish Mother of the Year, I can assure you, fellow Irish folk, we're being represented well.
