Northeast Ohio animal shelters participating in Clear the Shelters: See the list

The annual campaign runs from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10. Over 20 shelters in Northeast Ohio are teaming up with WKYC to help pets find a new home.

CLEVELAND — Each year, NBC and Telemundo stations from across the United States team up with animal shelters and rescues for the annual Clear the Shelters campaign.

This year, Clear the Shelters will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with the campaign running from Aug. 10-Sept. 10.

In honor of the anniversary, the donation initiative will have an extended run until Sept. 30.

“Surpassing the one-millionth all-time adoption last year and now celebrating our 10th campaign are not just milestones, these numbers help quantify the incredible support Clear The Shelters has received from communities around the nation and the impact it’s had on vulnerable animals and the shelters that care for them,” said Meredith McGinn, NBCUniversal Local’s Executive Vice President of Diginets & Original Production, in a release.

Throughout the whole campaign, 3News will feature live segments with shelters from Northeast Ohio as well as adoptable pets.

Last year, during the month-long campaign, more than 3,300 animals found homes with the help of over 20 different rescues and shelters from across Northeast Ohio.

In 2015, Clear the Shelters began with just a single news station participating from Texas. Since then, the campaign has expanded across the United States as more than 1 million furry friends have found their forever home.
