CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is temporarily slashing adoption fees by more than 50% as part of a nationwide "Empty the Shelters" campaign, the shelter announced Friday.
From now though Wednesday, May 15, the typical $95 adoption fee has been reduced to $40 for dogs aged four months and older.
“Many dogs have been waiting for homes at the shelter for a long time, causing capacity constraints,” said Mindy Naticchioni, the shelter's administrator. “If you’ve been considering bringing a fur baby into your home, the Empty the Shelters event provides a great opportunity to do so at a reduced cost.”
The adoption fee covers spay/neuter services, vaccinations, a 2024 dog license, microchipping and a rabies tag, the shelter said.
The campaign is sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, which will also donate $50 to the animal shelter for every completed adoption.
The shelter also said that it has a "critical need" for temporary foster homes. Anyone interested in fostering is asked to email the shelter at foster@cuyahogacounty.us or visit the shelter during business hours.
The CCAS is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 12-4 p.m.

On Thursday, City Dogs Cleveland, a shelter run by Cleveland Animal Care & Control, announced that its kennel is full and that it "urgently" needs to find homes for its adoptable dogs.
