'Miracle' dog recovering after left for dead in Cleveland

The teams at Muttley Cure and Greystone Veterinary Hospital are marking the puppy's progress one day at a time.

CLEVELAND — At just six weeks, with a swollen muzzle, exposed ribs, a constant IV drip of medication and nutrition, Miracle is just that.

"Little Miracle here was found on the side of the road in the Garfield Heights area, found wrapped in a pillowcase inside a duffle bag," Kristen Opatrny with Greystone Veterinary Hospital said.

A family took her in, but soon realized how dire her condition is, so they turned her over to Muttley Crue Rescue.

She was immediately brought to Greystone Veterinary Hospital requiring round-the-clock care.

"She has some trauma to her face, so far she has no visible broken bones, anything that we could see, so supportive care is our main mode of action right now," Opatrny said.

Miracle's story points to two problems rescues are seeing constantly, people getting pets during the pandemic and not putting in the work to get them properly trained and the difficulty of finding and prosecuting the humans who abuse dogs, like Miracle, and leave them for dead.

"We'll probably never know who did this to her unfortunately, which sucks very bad. She deserves justice for what has become of her. No animal should suffer like this," Michele Coyne with Muttley Crue Rescue said.
