MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Humane Society in Mentor sees about 1,500 animals pass through its doors every year. The small non-profit organization is asking for donations to help feed those pets.
The humane society's "Feed a Shelter Pet for a Day" campaign runs through the end of March. For less than the price of a cup of coffee, donors can provide a day's worth of food to a pet in the shelter. For example, $1.25 a day provides one shelter pet with two nutritious bowls of food along with supplemental canned food and treats.
The shelter is asking for donations to provide the same type of healthy food that helped a former shelter dog named Augie. Augie represents so many pets that come into the shelter: neglected, emaciated and clinging to life.
Augie was covered in his own feces, urine and fleas. He was rushed for emergency veterinary treatment and finally stabilized. He weighed just 30 pounds when he entered the shelter and gained 20 as he was fed healthy meals to help him safely gain the weight that he needed to survive.
Thankfully, Augie made a full recovery!
There are other pets at Lake Humane in similar situations as Augie. The shelter will accept any donation big or small to help the pets in their care.
For example, $31.25 feeds 25 pets for one day.
By donating to the "Feed a Shelter Pet for a Day" campaign, pets like Augie will gain weight and live happy and healthy lives. To donate, visit: https://lakehumanesociety.salsalabs.org/march2023_feedapet/index.html.
