Meet WKYC's new Wags 4 Warriors puppy!

Our newest team member is paw-fect!

Introducing the newest member to Channel 3!

This beautiful girl is a fox red Labrador Retriever, born on Dec.18, 2018. She is coming to us from Wags 4 Warriors, a non-profit organization that pairs veterans with service dogs.

They pick the dog, train it and socialize it at no cost to the veteran. Jennifer and Frank DeLorenzo have led the pack since they opened in 2011, but this time their daughter is handling the new puppy.

Kayla DeLorenzo has been a spectator for a while, watching her parents foster dogs, helping to train them before handing them over to a veteran. Now, it’s her time.

“This will be my first time being a sole handler,” Kayla said.

She knows it’ll be a task since each dog requires 120 hours of training and a lot of socialization. They call it “puppy raising,” a process that takes six to nine months.

The puppy that WKYC is sponsoring comes from a local breeder, who produced a healthy litter of five other female dogs.

WKYC and the DeLorenzo’s will pick up the puppy on Feb. 15 and make appearances on the morning show every Tuesday and Thursday after that.

Here comes the fun part: You get to help by voting on her name! Watch Channel 3 on Feb. 4 for the details.
