During WKYC's month-long Clear the Shelter campaign, 3,316 pets were adopted from Northeast Ohio rescues and shelters.

The total from the campaign, which ran throughout the whole month of August, is nearly 400 more pets adopted than in 2022. This year, 25 rescues and shelters from the region participated in the annual initiative.

The total number of adoptions also set a record since WKYC began participating several years ago.

This annual pet adoption campaign is spearheaded by NBCUniversal in partnership with local NBC affiliates – like WKYC – and Telemundo stations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

In 2015, Clear the Shelters began with just a single news station participating from Texas. Since then, the campaign has expanded across the United States and over 860,000 furry friends have found their forever home.
