Akron shelter helping displaced and homeless pets from hurricanes in Florida, North Carolina

One Of A Kind Pet Rescue is preparing to welcome in adoptable dogs from Florida.

AKRON, Ohio — There is a significant need for animals impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. And to no one's surprise, Northeast Ohio is stepping in to help. One of A Kind Pet Rescue in Akron is doing what it can to help in both Florida and North Carolina.

In North Carolina, they've already donated leashes, collars, harnesses and other supplies, that are being taken to remote areas by 4-wheelers. Monetary donations are being collected to purchase medication for pets, particularly for respiratory and skin issues.

Meanwhile in Florida, shelters were damaged or destroyed in the storm. Adoptable animals housed there were moved ahead of the hurricane, but remain in holding facilities.

"We're working with transporters. We may be going to Florida ourselves, with our vans. Or we may be meeting them at an agreed upon location," shared One of A Kind Executive Director Tanya Jonda.

The Akron shelter is privately operated and relies on fundraising and contributions.

If you'd like to make a donation, you can do so by using the link below, along with a note "Help for Florida Dogs."
